on time

I am still not used to writing
‘2024’
And the days are already long
For just a few more weeks
Before winter starts
To reel the light in again
I must not waste these precious days
Of light

Today it is Tuesday

I have to remind myself today
It is Tuesday
I keep sensing it's Wednesday

Tuesday
Tuesday
Tuesday

It is always a Tuesday*

~

n.b. A strange feeling that today is not today. Will it mean that throughout tomorrow I will experience strong sensations of deja vu, because today I thought Tuesday was Wednesday?

*'It is always a Tuesday' is an echo of a striking poem I recall from a moment long passed, but cannot quite place.

on water

what happens when our world warms
is hard to fathom
when we spin from drought to flood
from flood to drought
drilling becomes harrowing
when seeds fail in sodden soil
harvest yields lessen
as fungi blossom in warm wet weather

n.b. All the fear, none of the risk. Child‘s play. Nice.

on the bus

drop the word ‘service’
absolute chaotic farce
hope is fragmented

~

n.b. Privatisation is an absolutely useless way to operate a public service. Free market extremism writ large. Economic theory for the already wealthy. Run public services for the people.

Fifteen years forgot
They’re Ipswich Town, going up
Thank goodness for that.

~

n.b. The return train collected a lot of sun-burnt, slightly intoxicated, blue smoke stained, happy people and delivered them to whence they came.

As the Hare Krishna man with a smile, said to me earlier, “We don’t want people to be unhappy.” A fair point to start from, I reckon.

Historical Echo

In writing a recent post, ‘If Music Is The Answer…’ I imagined a wandering minstrel writing protest songs who ends up killed, presumably for voicing his objections to injustices facing the common people. Today, reading Imperial Mud, The Fight for The Fens by James Boyce, I found this on p137…

You can’t make this stuff up!

n.b. Ipswich Town fans making journey to the ancient port, excited by promotion prospects. Good luck to them! Proper club.

May Days

It was fab yesterday
Nobody dared complain
Two layers one too many
Even at eleven, too warm
For three
Cloud cover like a duvet
Kept in the warmth
Until the breeze
Cut up rough
Blew the curtain aside
Dragged in cold air
Brought down the rain

Great Minds

Evidence clear for all to see
Eyes and tongues in harmony
Sadly the hearing part was off
It took a strong head to disagree
And establish the factual truth

~
n.b. Group think. Easily done. Readily manipulated. See witch hunts*, religions, nationalism, ‘Free’ market ideology extremists.

*This is not a metaphor for the criminal trial of The Tangerine One in NYC. It is about the demonisation of women in 17th Century Christian societies, leading to torture and executions.
